INTRODUCTION

Are you aged over 19? Do you have an interest in studying engineering? If you want to go to university and study an engineering degree but don’t have the qualifications you need, this course will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge that are required for Higher Education.

This course is a Level 3 course and is equivalent to three A-levels.

OVERVIEW

On this course you will learn and develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts of all aspects of engineering, including: electric circuits, electronics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, engineering design (CAD), advanced level mathematics, physics and chemistry as well as biomedical engineering. In addition to this, you will develop the skills that are required for success in higher education.

You will also receive advice and guidance while completing your UCAS application to study at university.

The course is taught in a variety of ways, including theoretical and practical sessions, assignments and group work. Most units are assessed via exams, allowing you to gain relevant preparation for university. You will be continually assessed throughout the year.

CAREER PROGRESSION

The vast majority of students that successfully complete the course will progress on to a university degree programme in an engineering discipline. Some will gain admission on to a Russell group university, due to the high relevance and advanced in-depth course content suited to such universities.

Other options include progression to an HND or Foundation Degree. The main focus of Access programmes is to prepare learners for study at university, however, some may decide to go into employment. On completion of your course, you will receive a profile of credits that will reflect your suitability for your chosen HND or degree programme.

Entry requirements

You must be at least 19 years old at the beginning of the course and hold a minimum of level 2 qualifications in both English and Mathematics.

However, if you have already achieved a level 2 qualification in one of these subjects, you will have the option to gain a level 2 qualification in GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths where applicable.

Fees and funding

The course fee is TBC.
