INTRODUCTION

Are you aged 19 or over? If you want to go to university and study Computer Science, Computer Science & Maths, Computing or Software Engineering, but you don’t have the necessary qualifications – then this course will enable you to develop the right skills for higher education.

OVERVIEW

Computer Science involves the use of algorithms to manipulate and communicate digital information and the interaction of data by processes enabling the data to be represented in the form of computer programs.

On this course, you will study the advanced mathematics required to grasp a fundamental understanding of the theory of computation and the practice of designing software systems. You will study all the rudimentary aspects of computer science: computer algorithms, linear programming, computer logic, number systems, computer programming, databases, advanced web technologies and computer hardware as well as advanced mathematics (algebra, calculus, trigonometry, matrices, logarithms and exponentials, series, complex numbers, statistics, co-ordinate geometry and vectors).

In addition to this, you will develop the skills that are required for success in higher education. You will also receive advice and guidance while completing your UCAS application to study at university.

The course is taught in a variety of ways, including theoretical and practical sessions, assignments and group work. Most units are assessed via exams, allowing you to gain relevant preparation for university. You will be continually assessed throughout the year.

CAREER PROGRESSION

You will be able to progress to an HND, Foundation Degree or an Honours Degree course at university in Computer Science and Maths or a related field.

On completion of your course, you will receive a profile of credits that will reflect your suitability for your chosen HND or degree programme.

Entry requirements

You must be at least 19 years old at the beginning of the course and hold a minimum of level 2 qualifications in both English and Mathematics.

However, if you have already achieved a level 2 qualification in one of these subjects, you will have the option to gain a level 2 qualification in GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths where applicable.
